Documentary: Lachs - quo vadis? l Kristof Reuther & Jonas Steiner
A film about the reintroduction of salmon in Germany & Switzerland in the context of the year of the salmon 2019. This once common fish in Germany is nowadays only known from the supermarket. This is without doubt also due to the fact that the stocks collapsed in the Rhine in the 20th century when it became completely extinct. After the notorious chemical accident "Schweizerhalle" in 1986, it was decided to restore the Rhine after decades of river corrections, shipping, and hydroelectric power exploitation. Through its popularity, the Atlantic salmon represents an "umberella species" and thanks to its high demands, it repeatedly points out problem areas that still remain. In order to strengthen the stocks again, many volunteers, clubs and associations are working on its reintroduction. We have accompanied them and learned what has been achieved so far and where there are still problems to be solved.
